Spring Yard Zone - SunSoft style

It's been a while since I last posted anything of value or, or in fact anything at all. I do have to say I cheated a little at the end because I needed a more twinkly sound than the old Sunsoft engine was capable of, but oh well ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

VRC6-only Mega Man 3 Intro

Aka I don't need no noise generators. I attempted recreating a full song with percussion, using only the VRC6 expansion by itself. No 2A03-s were hurt during the making of this project (other than one having to drive the whole process regardless... but that's what you get if you're a CPU with integr...

Turok 2 - Seeds of Evil (Base Stage)

I came across this amazing Alberto González song at it was love at first listen. It only took me an hour to cover it using the 2A03.

Hopefully the .ftm works properly as well, but I want to make an attempt to post it here anyway.

Crash Bandicoot - Toxic Waste 2A03

The soundtrack for the first Crash Bandicoot game was kind of... underwhelming compared to what was to come later in the series, but there was this little nugget, and while repetitive, it stood as being one of the more enjoyable songs in this hard-ass game.

Thunder Force IV - Metal Squad (Stage 8) VRC7

Hey, first off I know... it has been done before as part of the Thunder Force IV collab project, but I wanted to have a go at this using the same style as in my two contributions. I recommend using a more accurate NSF player for this, such as nsfPlay, otherwise the guitar might sound bad. My other t...

Re: High frequency sound in lower quality DPCM samples

Ths sound is there all the time, it's just too high-freq to hear when you use a higher playback speed. There's nothing you can do other than perhaps giving it more gain which will distort the sound into a more triangle-shaped sequence, or add very quiet noise from the noise channel to mask it up at ...

Jungle Book NES Boss Theme (VRC7)

Who would've thought that doing short cover like thiso ne is a great way to relieve stress. I've attached two versions, thought they only differ in which patch is being used for the lead.

Wow, this is a very cool way to play sampled sound, it could even work in a game.

Re: Questions regarding bit resolution, waveforms, etc.

The pulse channels and the noise have 4-bit volume, but the waveform itself is really just 1-bit because it's alternating between two states (0, current volume). The triangle is 4-bit because it's using its own 4-bit range constantly to create the wave going 0 - 15 and then 15 - 0. This is also why ...

Re: DPCM "Pitch Envelopes"

Magician uses this technique to get it's kick drum from a fairly basic standard kick, though it lowers the pitch over time as this single sample is being played and does not rely on small sample segments. Actually even a few DPCM arps (like octave arps with pitches $C and $F) could be achievable thi...
