Re: where to go with this? [n163]

Your riffs are pretty energetic-sounding, and I like how you're experimenting with more complex harmonies. That being said, I think the song gets a little too repetitive, since you mostly repeat the same beats over and over again. Try varying things up; even just changing the volume or voice of a ri...

Re: [VRC6] Mr. Brightside

Hey, this brings back some good memories! I'd say that the biggest problem is your mixing. Everything's extremely loud, leading to important parts like drums getting drowned out. I recommend putting most of your channels at sub-A levels. This will not only help certain parts stand out, but also give...

Re: Starry Night - My first song on FamiTracker

Pretty nice and jazzy first song! I liked your use of samples and the drum beat that comes in later on. However, the song gets very repetitive after a while; that loud and expressive intro becomes boring after the first few times. You might want to also consider using chords other than minor ones.

Re: Imitating Instruments By Ear

Most people don't do instruments by ear; in fact, it' pretty much impossible unless you're some kind of savant. Most people either NSFImport the instruments or use Audacity to look at their waveforms.

As a side note, is there any reason why you need to imitate instruments exactly? Just wondering.

Post Your Pit Boss!! Entries

A few days ago I competed in the Pit Boss!! knockout tournament hosted on Battle of the Bits (you can find it here: http://battleofthebits.org/academy/GroupThread/17364/PIT+BOSS%21%21+sign-ups+%28botb+mini-knockout+tournament%29/ ). Although I ultimately dropped out of the competition, I'm posting m...

Re: Piano Pedals Imitation

Assuming that your piano instrument is a duty cycled V02 to V06 instrument, you could simulate the soft pedal by making an instrument with the same volume envelope but a different, less plucky duty envelope. The sustain pedal could be done with echo effects or by alternating channels every note.

Re: Muffled Channel

What you have going on is not a channel bug, but a separate issue entire known as clashing. Because the 2A03's sound is based on simple waves, when two or more waves play the same note, they muffle each other. You can mitigate this by either designing your song to avoid these clashing notes or by us...
