Re: Port Famitracker to the 3DS/N3DS!?

I know a forum isn't exactly the place for a blog post, but some would argue a game console isn't the place for FamiTracker. First off, some replies. re: emulator testing Most developers in the 3ds scene use the windows 3ds emulator Citra, for testing :) Citra cannot be used to boot a Linux ke...

Re: Port Famitracker to the 3DS/N3DS!?

I mean, I am working on it too, so there's that. I think it's somewhere between a "because we can" thing, and, to me, the idea of composing on the go, is pretty neat. I don't want to have to whip out a whole laptop for a quick idea. It's like a sketchpad for FT, in my opinion. I almost alw...

Re: Qt FamiTracker

No need to be sorry! I'm having fun :) I just need breaks, I'm glad I'm not on a deadline to deliver. I'm particularly lazy. Qt Creator had no problem finding the compiler, and Mint and Ubuntu share common package heritage, so there shouldn't be an issue there, but I think I've built up a suite of l...

Re: Qt FamiTracker

Alright, it took quite a bit of wrestling to get it to cooperate, but I think I'm going about it wrong from the start. I'm on a 64-bit machine, and FamiTracker's source makes a lot of platform assumptions to 32 bit, mainly because Win32 programs run fine on 64-bit Windows platforms thanks to WoW64. ...

Re: Port Famitracker to the 3DS/N3DS!?

Messing with the dialog resources shouldn't be too hard. I've messed with resource-hackers to customize and screw with Windows apps before, chances are I could just load the FamiTracker.rc up and go about it through that. I'm having some issues building (I think it's building a 64-bit binary since I...

Re: Port Famitracker to the 3DS/N3DS!?

The size of the screen isn't as much of a problem as the resolution and the user interface, assuming it can be compiled to ARM. I think the bottom screen should have any windows and dialogs on it, and by default show the instrument/pattern display, and a one to two-octave virtual keyboard input area...

Re: Qt FamiTracker

@cpow: I have a MIDI (USB) device and Linux computer, and will happily test builds. Is there a source repository or archive from which I can build and run it? I tried looking it up but I could only find old threads and such. I can also build on other platforms, such as Haiku, AROS, other UNIX, Mac a...

Re: Port Famitracker to the 3DS/N3DS!?

There is a port of Linux for the 3DS, rather than the DS, with support for a Wayland compositor, which QT can render to. A port of QTFT to the 3DS is not too far off, assuming that the architecture-specific code has been taken care of - which I'd assume was just the MFC stuff, anyway. The only probl...

Semantic issue: DMC vs. DPCM

So I've heard of the delta-modulated channel of the 2A03 referred to as DMC or DPCM, interchangeably, without regard to the context. DMC, "Delta-modulated carrier" or "Delta-modulated channel" typically refers to the channel in the 2A03 which plays back DPCM samples. DPCM, "...

Re: What is VRC6?

My biggest problem is finding the right sound... I've spent 20 years around live instruments, knowing sounds that different woods and strings give when plucks or bowed, and making an instrument off of a computer is way more complicated than I thought :P What helps for this, is to visualize the soun...
