Those "Potato"chips...

Postby Sky Yoshi » Wed Dec 02, 2015 2:07 pm

What are these Expansion chip does?
And why these chips are not included in FamiTracker?
「NEC µPD7756C & Mitsubishi M50805」
I really want to know that.

Xyz already answered this in your other thread:
Xyz wrote:As for the other two chips you mentioned, they are ADPCM chips containing fixed samples from their games. They may be included in the .nsf specification in the future but for the meantime it is unsupported.

.wav = a microsoft specification for playing PCM type audio on personal computers. It is incorrect to even say something like "the mmc5 can play .wav on its 3rd channel" because that is different from saying "the mmc5 can play PCM samples on its 3rd channel". The 1st quote is false, the 2nd quote is true.

The Mitsubishi and Bandai chips only play ADPCM type audio.

So no.

It'd be pretty cool if they were supported, as it'd be cool to use real instrument samples (alongside DPCM) without having to try and replicate them on the VRC6 or N163.

The way I see it, I feel one should make SPC700 music for situations involving using lots of samples.
Although I would like to see more sound chips added for support solely for the purpose of completion and 100% full emulation of the Famicom hardware.

They don't work like that. The samples are like the VRC7's unique patches in that they're built onto the chip die. then being supported in FT would be useless because you wouldn't be able to hear those samples on hardware (which is what FT emulates)
Slowly working on a thing called "FaMIGA".
