Hopefully more active Famicom Hardware Recordings thread

Postby ImATrackMan » Sun Dec 13, 2015 8:18 am

Since jrlepage seems to have disappeared, I figured I'd take up the reins as the recording guy. I started a second dropbox for the sole purpose of these recordings, so let's hope it doesn't fill up too quickly.
Rules borrowed from jrlepage:
jrlepage wrote:
  1. No more than 2 or 3 requests at a time
  2. Make sure you specify how long the recording should last, including no more than two overall loops
  3. Make sure you specify the expansion you used, if applicable
  4. If your NSF uses the VRC7, make sure you exported it using Famitracker 0.4.1 or later
  5. If your NSF uses more than 15 kB of DPCM data, make sure you exported it using Famitracker 0.4.3 or later
  6. Finally, be patient! I might not get to your request within hours of you posting it, but I'll get to it eventually.

These two rules...
  1. No multi-expansion NSFs
  2. No FDS or 5B NSFs as I do not own the necessary hardware for those
...are invalid as I'm not limited to one cartridge slot. When the TNS-HFX4 is used in combination with the HFC4 there are 2 sockets, 4 cart slots, and a recreation of the full
FDS audio mixing circuitry enabling me to use all 6 expansions at the same time if so desired. NSFs exported with the official build of Famitracker have a problem when
using the envelope generator on hardware (the volume MUST be enabled in a macro if using the envelope), and Famitracker 5B NSFs in general (both 0.5B and 0cc-FT) have
envelope generator issues when used with a real Gimmick! cartridge. Regardless, 5B NSFs will be recorded using the YMZ since Gimmick!'s amplified output is way too fucking loud.

FT mixing volumes:
- 5B: +6.5 - +7.5 dB (0cc-FT), +3 - 3.5 dB (Official FT)
- FDS: -3 dB
- VRC7: about -3 dB

There are a few things that remain the same, though, and a couple of differences.
  1. No PAL recordings. I don't own any PAL or Dendy hardware, so this isn't possible for me right now.
  2. No over/underclocking. TNS hardware can only play files at the standard 60.09Hz
  3. No extremely large files or odd drivers. The TNS can usually load 1MB files with no problem, but SuperNSFs, it2nsf, and spc2nsf either glitch, break, or refuse to play at all.
  4. No MMC5. This is only temporary, I'm waiting for a copy of Just Breed.

Here's the link to jrlepage's archive.

Here are a couple of files to show off
Fukui.cat: Kokuga theme 2 - "Houga" (FDS)
ImATrackMan: Oh! GB demo tune (1CH N163 mixed at proper volume)

With that out of the way, make some requests, everyone~!

Latest recordings (newest to oldest):
Rushjet1 x Raijin - test_and2 [VRC7] (I'm not sure, I did this a while ago. I think this one crashed the TNS and froze up)
drdevil - Why not? [VRC6]
Mojitone - Igor Stravinsky's "The rite of Spring" (buggy sound) [8-N163]
MiniMacro - Technowhatever [2A03]
Lum - Night on the Town [2A03]
MrKyurem - Cavern Calamity [2A03]

When I finish the soundtrack to DRW's game, can I send you the NSF so you can make a hardware recording?
I have permanently switched to 0CC-FamiTracker. If and when JSR decides to update vanilla FamiTracker at this point is entirely out of the question for me.

Yes, but you need to tell me how long each track is.

Yeah, I will once it's finished.

Record for 124.8 seconds - that should be precisely 2 loops, please.

Could you please record my song "Night On The Town"? It's 2A03 only, and doesn't loop. It lasts about 1 minute 32 seconds.
