Seeking music for new NES game

Postby soiaf » Sat Aug 20, 2016 12:32 pm

I'm currently developing a game for the NES and while its coming along pretty well - its completely silent :(
The game is being developed using ASM6 and I tried a few different sound engines, the one that worked best for me was ggsound, which uses FamiTracker files as its input.
The game itself is a Tetris type game, but instead of just going for the fastest etc. my version is slightly different in that I add challenges to each level, for example different shapes, blocks being occasionally randomly added, a line shifting to one side, the whole playarea moving up etc.
While its still alpha, if anyone would like to try it, I have a one level playable version here http://forums.nesdev.com/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=14530
Current alpha version is 0.60
The game will be free and when finished (or close to being finished) I'll be uploading the code to GitHub.

What I'm hoping is that someone here can point me in the direction of some free-to-use FamiTracker music that I could add to my game, or in the ideal best case scenario , find someone who could actually compose some music for the game.
I'm looking for title screen and in-game music and possibly also some sounds/short piece for you win and you lose/game over.

Thanks!

I'm up for it! You can check my material in my signature to see if you like my stuff. There's also this http://forums.famitracker.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=2600 which hasn't been uploaded to YouTube yet. What kind of composing style do you want? Do you want a C64-esque, Western kind of music, or are you more interested in the Japanese, melody focused style? I do stuff with both, although I'm a little more experience with the Japanese style. If you want, I can also do sound effects.

Great!
I had a listen to your stuff and like what I heard. So would be really pleased if you could compose some music.
My personal preference is for a more melodic style, however I'd be quite happy with C64 style music as well :)
If you could do sound effects as well that would be great - I'm not sure I'd have too many, definitely one for when a line is complete and is removed, maybe a different one if 4 lines together are completed. I think the only other event that may (though I'm not decided) need a sound effect is when a special action occurs e.g. a new random block has appeared on-screen, the whole playarea has raised etc.
It would probably be worthwhile having a read of the readme attached to ggsound to see if there are any limitations that may affect how you compose a piece - http://forums.nesdev.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=11655
e.g. hi-pitch envelopes are not supported - not that I know what that means :)

I really appreciate the offer and obviously can give you more info on the game or make versions available to you with extra levels so you can get more ideas etc.

Okay! Don't worry about the limitations, I NEVER use hi-pitch. Also, I think we should discuss this kind of stuff via private messages.

I have the first song down! What do you think? Is this the direction I should keep going in? Much like in real Tetris, I had the idea that when the blocks get close to the edge of the screen, the music speeds up. However, I did a little more than a simple tempo change and changed the melody around a little bit on the fast mode.

Sounds great - I like both but I especially like the fast version, I can definitely imagine the player being stressed while that is playing :)

New stuff! Yay! :P I've added the title screen music, slightly edited the stage B theme, and changed around the sound effects. I also added some fanfares.

Also, when the game starts up, could it please play track 1 in the soundtrack while displaying the attached image?
