N163 Wavetable Creation - Help Wanted

Postby ball_and_paddle » Thu Jan 26, 2017 8:58 pm

I'd like to make some N163 waves based on samples of real instruments. I've tried N106izer and haven't been able to get usable results. What I usually do is try to replicate a waveform by hand in FamiTracker, but this is really time consuming and error-prone. What's the best way to create N163 waves? What techniques do you use?

While it's pretty basic, there's also an audacity plugin retrotails made on the old forums (http://famitracker.com/forum/posts.php?id=2907) that can be used to convert samples to N163 as well as FDS. While it's good for single-wave instruments, the biggest pain is doing an instrument w/ multiple waveforms, as you'll have to calculate which periods of the sample to convert as to make sure the speed's all correct in the final instrument. And, it can only do N163 waveforms up to 64. I'm not too sure how much better this would be, but I thought I'd share just in case.
Ha! You just wasted your time trying to read this tiny text!
