Replicating the Ninja Ryukenden Soundtrack Music?

As many of you probably know, the Ninja Ryukenden soundtrack has audio tracks with expanded audio channels.

Has anyone here thought about trying to replicate these extra channels in FamiTracker?

I tried, but I sucked at it. Is it even 2A03 sound channels? Or are they using something else?

There are no Tecmo games on FC/NES that make use of expansion audio (unless they made FDS games, but Ninja Ryukenden/Gaiden isn't one of them). So, no, Ninja Ryukenden/Gaiden does not use expansion audio; it sticks within the RP2A03's five channels.

Some forum members have made covers of music from Ninja Ryukenden/Gaiden. This and this are two examples, the former of which tries to sound like the original song, and the latter of which being an enhanced cover collection that does use expanded sound channels.

Thanks for mentioning me, Shywolf!
Anyway, Arc, why would the game use expanded audio channels if it can run on a North American NES?

NP.

Well, the JP FC release of Ninja Gaiden could've included expansion audio, and had the tracks downsized to RP2A03-only for the US NES release (e.g. exactly what happened with Castlevania III). The soundtrack album linked in the OP was only released in Japan, so it more than likely would have included the hypothetical expansion audio version of the soundtrack over the RP2A03-only NES version. But the JP release of Ninja Gaiden doesn't use expansion audio, so.

I'm sorry. You probably misunderstood me. The soundtrack release added some notes that weren't originally in the NES/FC games. This is what I'm talking about:

Act 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFTlOnxhL4U
Act 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mL1AszI_Jkc

I'm curious to find out how this could be replicated in FamiTracker, using MMC5 perhaps?

By the way, those VRC6 arrangements are pretty cool. Where'd you get the idea, MM?

...I misunderstood. Wow, that's quite an interesting album; I should've listened to the tracks before replying. This sounds like a few (two at most?) extra pulse channels, with the same duty capabilities as the 2A03's, + lots and lots of stereo panning. The stereo you'll have to add outside of FT, but the extra pulses can certainly be done with MMC5 (or any of the other expansions that can do pulse channels of varying duty width).

psn did those VRC6 arrangements, by the way.

Oh. :|

Have you thought about covering the other tracks, MM? I'm thinking about giving these extra channel covers another shot, and, unlike some users, I don't prefer 900 BPM (NSFImport), and I could use something like yours as a starting point. (if not, don't worry about it.)

Too bad the track you did (Act 4-2) isn't one of the upgraded tracks. :/

No, I haven't thought about the others. That cover took me a week to do.

So I decided to tackle Track 4 - The Ninja Dragon:

Again, I'm not keen on 900 BPM tracks. The next step is to match the volume and instrument settings of the new track (I believe it needs more vibrato). Tell me what you think?

Did you just import the NSF and add on MMC5 and the new melodies?
Anyway, nice job with the extra MMc5 parts.
