Is It Bad That I Think My Music Is Really Good?

Postby Naijeru-Kun » Sun Dec 30, 2018 11:36 pm

Am I too confident in myself? I find myself to be, a musical genius. An incredible composer, of fantastic quality. I believe that I can compose any kind of track that I set out to make, and can create a fun and unique cover of any track that I decide to do. Is this bad? Am I a douchebag? Do other composers feel this way about their own work? Seriously, I compare my music to other people’s and think to myself “Nah, man, these are both good.” “My music is just as good as this other composer’s.” Am I RIGHT, though?! I must pick at your brain! Please, fellow humans, explain to me how the world works so that I may consume of knowledge, boundless, hubris deflating knowledge!

TLDR: I’m good but how good am I

BTW I’m not talking about the music I’ve put on this site, I’m afraid to post FTMS after the Ppixelation incident

I'm glad you have confidence in yourself! Thinking you can do anything is much better than thinking you can't do anything. A fellow FamiTracker user told me that believing, internally, that you're a good composer and coverer is essential to being a productive and innovative musician, and I agree with them.
That being said 'internally' is the key word. Just because you think you're a genius doesn't mean that anyone else will, and loudly exclaiming that you think you are one without any real evidence is guaranteed to make people think you're overly arrogant (it's also a one-way ticket to r/iamverysmart :P ).When showing and talking about your music to other people, be sure to stay humble and be willing to take criticism, even harsh criticism, so you can grow as a performer.
Since you wanted me to rate your music, I've taken a look at a few of the originals and covers you've posted to this forum. Overall, I think you have potential, but you still need to improve (who doesn't?).
A squid with a higher post count than the NES can handle.

Oh wow I wasn’t expecting someone to actually acknowledge this lol. I’ve definitely improved a lot since I stopped posting here 2 years ago and my newer stuff is a lot better than the old. But you’re right no one is ever 100% and there’s always something we can get better at.
