Thunderforce IV - Community Cover Project

Postby recme » Thu Jul 02, 2015 11:30 pm

Info
In this project, members of the Famitracker Forums cover already made songs from a specific video game soundtrack in which the community has voted for. For the sake of reference, I've included some guidelines for what should be followed.

    1. Only one song at a time per person.
    2. The limit for calling dibs for each person is 5 times. We don't really need one person covering the whole soundtrack.
    3. Members can use whichever expansion chip needed to cover the song needed. The only limit is your creativity. As for the organization, all the songs will be kept in a folder/zip.
    4. Usage of references are allowed, whether it be looking at a .midi or looking at the games files. As long as the end product sounds great, I'll allow it.
    5. You may stylize the song if you want. It can range from a simple cover of the song to a complete remix. I must ask that you should at least make the main melody recognizable.
    6. You must send me your finished .ftm through PM.
    7. You may pick another song once again if your song has been completed and sent to me.
    8. If I do give your song the greenlight, then you may post it in this thread.
    9. The maximum time it should take to make a song is 1 week. If you called dibs on a song and still haven't PM'd me the song, I will send you a PM and/or contact you through e-mail. If I didn't receive a response from you within 2 days, the song shall be available once more, for people to call dibs on.
    10. The most important part of all: have fun!
Chat
EDIT: I just figured out that you must have a client in order to hold a channel. I'm not on my own PC at this moment, so the IRC chat must wait until I'm at home (which is on Monday.)

Here is a chat that I made for the purpose of this project.

http://esper.net/publicirc.php

Put your username and write the channel name. The channel we will be using is called "#ftm" (without quotations). I might not be online all the time, so please try to respect one another and keep discussions only for this project. Otherwise, find yourselves another chat to talk about things in your life.

Nice, I really love this soundtrack. I can't get started until I get home in a couple days but I'd like to do at least one, maybe more depending on how many people get involved before I finish my first. I'm calling dibs on Because You're The Number One. One of my favorite tunes, I think I'll try to extend it a bit.
Looking forward to seeing everyone's submissions.
Doing a great job so far, recme, thanks for keeping it clear and organized.
Fan of:
Cave Story, Mega Man X, MOTHER 3, Star Fox 64, Super Metroid, Shining Force.
Classic SEGA, Treasure, Square, Falcom.
Various roguelike RPGs and shmups/bullet hells.

I think I'll call Omake 5. You know you have an awesome soundtrack when your omitted tunes are this good.

Some things that might be useful for people (from Project 2612 iirc):

Thanks for the lack of limits on expansion choice and such, recme!

Anyway, dibs on:

I have strong feelings against this. My original idea when pitching this project was to reunite every FTM under a single one at the end of the project, and this rule makes that idea impossible. Selecting the expansion should've been part of the brainstorming process. But oh well, it's too late now. It's your project now anyway so you get the final say I guess.

I'll start off with "What Stage 1-B"! Also quick question for you guys -- what are you using to open the .vgm files? I'm using Audio Overload but when I silence all the channels there still seems to be a couple playing... is it buggy or am I missing something? Thanks for the drum samples too!

EDIT: Also jrl makes a good point. I'd personally prefer to keep the chip consistent.

VGMPlay/in_vgm.dll should be the only player anyone has in mind for VGM. It supports every chip the VGM format implements, has superior accuracy, and is maintained by the creator of the VGM format himself.

i thought about this during the brainstorming process, but i figured that i shouldnt change how people want to do their covers. forcing somebody to make simple/complex songs may turn some them off, thus leaving them out. plus, leaving everything in a single ftm can cause issues, instrument-wise.

putting everything in a single ftm would make things easier for me, and easier to access for everyone. however, id sacrifice those two things so that the people contributing to this project can have more freedom with their songs.
