Does anybody know how to make a good jazz organ only using pulse-wave channels? All the ones I've tried to make sound absolutely abysmal.

That may have something to do with the fact the 2A03 pulse channels sound nothing like a jazz organ to begin with.

If you honestly want to make an authentic organ sound, you should probably be using something more like the FDS chip.

What about using using 2 channels? I've used 2 channels before to create pretty good steel drum and accordion sounds.

I tried making something based on the sound of this organ: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UmLcXeGMYnc

If you're working with 2A03 only then you aren't going to really get an accurate sound. Your best bet is to find something that at least manages to maintain the same feeling and tone as the original instrument.

An octave harmony (with detune on each of the channels) between two channels would work well for emulating the sound further, but that leaves little room for much else on the pulse channels. Consider using arpeggios.

Hah. Me, I'm anti-arp -- the way it necessarily breaks up the note gives it a completely different sound from multichanneling the same notes, and in most cases I just don't like the result.

This track might have the thing you're looking for.
Typically it's a 50% square with a 0 12 0 or similar arp, with a slightly delayed attack (should be at its loudest at frame 2 in the editor). It can also be paired with another channel that should be detuned for best results.
I once did a recreation of a jazz organ on the triangle channel long ago and I liked how it turned out, but I seem to have lost it.

I don't have access to a computer right now so other people here might know better.

I found this FTM from a while back and it has a pretty nice organ in it. It comes in at frame 09.

I would use something like { | 1 1 2 2 1 1} for the duty cycle, { | 15 15 14 14 13 13 13 14 14 15 } for volume, and maybe { 12 0 } or { 12 | x x y 0 0 x x y 0 } for the arpeggio. If you are looking for a sound chip that can readily reproduce most instruments, you would not be using the 2A03 pulses at all, so get used to creating very crude approximations with the limited hardware capabilities.
