DefaultIcon Bug on Windows 10 ?

Postby LGA1150 » Fri Nov 27, 2015 9:54 am

I'm using 0.5.0 beta5 on Windows 10, and I found that FTM files' default icon was missing (Showed up as an unknown file type).
Then I looked into the registry table and found that the default value of KEY HKCR\Famitracker.Module\DefaultIcon\ is E:\FAMITR~1\FAMITR~1.EXE,1
I replaced "1" (at the end of the value) with "0", re-logged into Windows, and the default icon was back. :D But when I opened Famitracker, it modified the KEY value back to E:\FAMITR~1\FAMITR~1.EXE,1 , causing this bug again!

Odd. Is it your computer? My computer (a Toshiba Satellite L775) runs Windows 10 and this bug doesn't happen on my machine.

~1 is a standard suffix for generating short (8.3) file names, but usually the numbers count up, not down....

Do you happen to have more than one FamiTracker (named e.g. "FamiTracker 0.4.6.exe" vs. "FamiTracker 0.5 beta.exe") installed in the same directory such that they'd generate similar 8.3's? Don't do that....

FT automatically sets those registry values every time you open it. I really wish it wouldn't do that.

He probably meant the resource identifier at the end.

Yeah, this happens to me as well. Except I'm on Windows 7.

They open just fine when double-clicked, just... where's the old familiar file icon?

I don't have that bug in my laptop. Thankfully, I am still comfortable. :)

What happens if you take the registry key and replace the short (8.3) path and file names with their full path/filenames?
