"File is not a vaild Famitracker Module"

Recently, one of my ftm files (that I spent ALOT of time on) won't open in Famitracker. I don't remember doing anything to it. I opened it, added notes, then saved and closed it. But now 2 more of my older ftm files won't open and I didn't even touch those. Does anyone have anyway to fix this?

Short answer: No.

Long answer: Please attach one of your files to your post.

Sorry for the late reply, here it is. This is one of the ones I worked on later.

This file appears to contain random bytes. Recovery is impossible.

Do you know why it happened though?

It is certainly not FamiTracker's fault. It might sporadically create empty files, but not purely random data that looks nothing like buffer overflow. It is your own responsibility to know why it happened.

Which is a rare event, but devastating if it happens.

Mushroomdude, did anything out of the ordinary occur when you last loaded/edited/saved the file?

The last time I opened it was just to listen to it. After that, I closed Famitracker then unplugged my flash drive.

So, no changes or saving to the file in the meantime? Hmm.

In my case, the one FTM I lost occured right after my PC had suffered a 100% system freeze (suspected to be a thermal freeze).

How possible is it to build a file-recovery feature into FamiTracker (any fork) ? I admit that I haven't done basically any tracking since the last time this happened, and I can't use a normal backup utility for this because it has to be something that can keep at least the last two versions of a file.

It's no big deal though. That song was really easy to cover. There was an original song I made on the other hand that I wish I still had...
