SN5B Vocal simulation

Postby w7n » Sat Jan 09, 2016 11:51 am

I kid you not.
So, I was not familiar with SN5B and I tried to learn it and screw around with it, and then I discovered its underdeveloped feature. So I told ImATrackMan this, and we went on to work on two vocal simulation modules (and the vocals even have some different traits)
Both two modules are made in 0CC v0.3.13, and requires a bit of effort to port to the official beta, so NSFs only.

Vocals in my module:
'Watashi wa, Sunsoft 5B (Sansofuto faibu bi). Inochi mijikashi, yuri seyo otome.'
(I'm Sunsoft 5B. Life is short, engage in yuri.)
Vocals in IaTM's module:
'O-Ohayougozaimasu. Watashi no namae wa, Sunsoft 5B.'
(G-Good morning. My name is Sunsoft 5B.)

Next time anyone says '5B sucks' or '0CC is overrated' I will slap him in the face

Edit: Added the eatshit NSF: 'Jaa si laa, loeng fei faan!' (Eat shit, Leung Feifan!)

nsf.nesbbs.com under reconstruction, better player might be available in the future.

VRC6 PWM is GAY because it has colours of the rainbow in the NSFPlay keyboard visualizer.

Thank you for fixing the "f" sounds.

The production of "m" and "n" sounds that are distinct is nearly impossible.
Slowly working on a thing called "FaMIGA".

Added a new one.
Also I like the fact that people always blame Sky Yoshi yet he is the only one (other than the authors) to give a reply by now.

I still don't quite understand fully understand how the chip operates, but this is a fantastic idea, although, it's not as clear as the Famiku vocal instruments that you've shown to us.
Oh, hi 'v'^... Here's my YouTube.... and remember: I'm most certainly not a bear-dinosaur-man-thing...

For some reason I can hear 'O-Ohayougozaimasu. Watashi no namae wa, Sunsoft 5B.' better than any Famicaloid phrase (:
If anybody knows where i can download FMPSG albums please let me know.
Here is my youcloud and twitterbook. Whatever. Shitmusics.

Using the 5B's mode combos, you can create the base tone of the phoneme with the ENVgen, and add overtones as necessary using Tone, while the NOIgen works well when combined with Tone for "S" sounds, and low pitched ENVgen for Js, Zs, and hard consonants (G, K, CH). The reason w7n and I chose short Japanese phrases is because this is super time consuming and all vowel sounds in JP are consistent, so they could be pasted/pitched with little to no modification.

Someone with more time (and double the clock speed) could feasibly make full sentences since the envelope is more precise at 1.79 MHz as opposed to the 5B's 0.89. Atari ST folks have it even better at 2 MHz, and homebrew/clone computers run them as high as 4 MHz. The vowels are out of the way, we just need more consonants and more precise pitching. Besides that, AY/YM speech is totally achievable (and decipherable).
