Essentials 1 [VRC7]

Postby ErmDJVit » Tue Sep 06, 2016 10:30 am

This is jazz/abstract tune that reflects on some of my childhood growing up with Miles Davis, Lee Morgan, Curtis Fuller, and JJ Johnson records and CDs. Although I wasn't a fan of CDs, I have a whole bookshelf dedicated to CDs with multiple genres. I like the immersive feel of vinyl recordings being played from the record player to the surround sound system or my headphones (Sennheiser HD700/Byerdynamic dt 900 600 Ohm). This is my first attempt at jazz and I was stacking 9th chords to get a real sort of Rhodes sound. It was thought up then it settled and nested down as the bass and the drums come in. The drums are actually a little heavy. I should use another more acoustic drum samples or record some of my own.

I hope you like

It starts good, but it starts to lose its appeal after a while. Try varying things up about halfway. Your piano patch could use a lower sustain volume as well.

One other thing to note is that it doesn't sound that jazzy. Its repetition, heavy drums and lack of complex chords make it closer to drum 'n' bass than jazz. That doesn't mean there's anything wrong with it, just that it's not what you were going for.
