I'm having troubles with a game soundtrack

Postby BBLIR » Sun Oct 23, 2016 5:32 pm

I am currently working on a Mega Man Zero-inspired game called Mission 9000, and I'm having troubles making the soundtrack for the game(s). Some help would be nice.
I attached my progress below.

I think the biggest issue here is the instrumentation. It doesn't really sound Mega Man Zero-ey to me It doesn't carry the momentum or sound. Same with the composition. It doesn't have the punch and drive that Mega Man Zero really had within its music. The most I can tell you is to study the way the instruments sound and how the composition is written, and I'm sure you can get it sounding more like Mega Man Zero.
I like the chips and the tunes

I didn't mean Mega Man Zero-styled as in music, the MMZ part of the game is the level structure.

This doesn't really have anything of note in it. All of the songs either have way too much dissonance, or are just straight up boring. The instrumentation is very samey, and there's no real structure in any of them.
wow this is total BS

You guys don't seem to get the point;
the problem isn't, that I's having troubles composing the songs, the problem is, that i can't compose them. AT ALL. This soundtrack probably has the best music I have ever made.
Criticism won't help much here. I need help.

What's wrong with composing? You already have written 64 different songs (I'm counting the redundant ones, but even so...). Many (S)NES titles didn't have that much effort put into their soundtrack!
Your soundtrack clearly defines the style and mood of the game, which we can guess as an action-packed, futuristic title (or so I think).
Apart from the fact that there is a certain... "fatigue" in some of the later songs in my opinion; Being an action title, there sure should be plenty of fast-paced songs, but it might be wise to think about some slow songs too.
Even the big action titles (like MM) have some "transition" songs that act as a sort of rest. Except for "The Choice", I didn't notice any song of this kind.

I think that with some time, this soundtrack could become something good.
I mean, look how far I've come from version 1:

I updated it again, adding a few songs and providing a list of songs that will be in the game.
