I suppose he knows a bit cause he's dedicated to the subject.
Though I myself haven't found any sources regarding the phone line thing outside of a YouTube comment. (Which itself had no source to back it up.)
Even if they did do it by phone line, you gotta remember these guys were pirates. They didn't have extreme high quality resources like we do now.

He isn't using Hummer Team's sound driver; he's replicating their style of music. Anything made on FamiTracker uses the FamiTracker sound driver (unless it is exported to Famitone). Making music on Hummer Team's sound driver would require reverse engineering and experience with programming in 6502 assembly.

The Shovel Knight theme is just priceless :D Explorer sounds pretty good. I would like to hear some Castlevania songs in this style, so you can do some, if you want to.

Well, I was hoping for something that's not from an NES game, but this is still pretty good! I suppose I could experiment with such covers myself. May I use these instruments in the future? I would like to make my own batch of Hummer style covers at some point.

1) Hummer Team never ever made use of swing rhythm(as seen in Somari/Aladdin)
2) Some covers are too good for cheap cover style.
In general, I find it creepy enouph to be put into Hummer Team parody or something. Good(or bad?) job!
