Bad Sound Engine Challenge

Postby MegaByte » Tue Aug 02, 2016 10:06 pm

I was tying to make a song that sounded like it came straight from the NES's heyday and came up with a couple instruments so... I decided why not turn this into a challenge to see what people come up with using these instruments so... here you go...

Do a cover of any song you want.

Rules are in the FTM's Comments

Have Fun and Good Luck! You'll need it... ;)

Here Is Entry OF Hope You Licked It

the fact that youre limited to only the bxx cxx dxx comands is kinda dumb. also why does the noise instrument have a pitch setting.
a bit more instruments could be nice, hey an open hi-hat or even a blank would be good enough i bet. i dont like how the rules are against using the triangle as a bass but whatever.

Here's a cover of Ruins from Undertale. I did the best with what I had.

Yeah... those were kinda of stupid... I didn't think everything through while making this. I'll bend the rules. ;)
Also I added some new instruments including an open hat.

Just so you know, that update changed the sound of the percussion in my and Famulator's songs. Here's a fix. :)

(The issue was instrument 03 was moved to 05, but the change wasn't reflected in the songs, so it sounded off. I fixed it by changing all instances of instrument 03 in the noise channel to 05.)

Mine's probably going to sound pretty bad now that the rules have been updated. Oh well.

There's my little entry. I didn't cover the whole song. It's from Lufia, btw. However, I personally don't think it sounds terribly terrible.

Sorry if I somehow did it wrong.

This seems like a fun idea! \.o./
I wonder how the forum's (probably) most covered song here would sound like on this...

I picked the champion battle from Pokémon Gold and Silver. Thanks, Junichi Masuda.

This really doesn't sound far off from the original, Pokémon's sound engine doesn't seem to sound all that complicated.
