Do you see any vocal parts in that description?

Yeah, the word "song" is commonly understood to mean vocal music (with lyrics or without), but over the years I think its usage has been expanded to also include music without vocals that is intended to evoke or emulate singing (e.g. music following the aesthetic of a prominent and persistent melodic lead and such).

I'm partial to using the term "piece" for instrumental and/or generally voice-box-less music, but meh. Something about roses and any other names for said roses.

One can look at the examples given within the article's description of song to infer that a song requires vocals. Moreover, an instrumental is specifically defined as a piece of music without singing. How would one explain the etymology if it did not require vocals? Vocals parts are sung, thus the term "song" is directly derived from that. Additionally, one could easily type "define: song" into the search engine of their choice and find a multitude of sites that will inform them that a song is, in fact, a piece of music with singing.

"Pedanted" is not a verb, as far as I have researched.

The attached NSF, as the original post should indicate. I have already pointed out that this has strayed far off-topic.

This was well made. It sounds pretty close to the original. I will enjoy listening to this from time to time!

as for whether it's a song or not:

...Let's just settle on calling it "music"!

The nsf (which is great, aside from the popping sounds the dpcm makes. I despise popping. Ruins songs imho) was obviously not your main focus in the first place.

PostApocolyptica wrote:Pedantically speaking, are we to assume this cover is invalid? The forum rules dictate that "[t]his area is dedicated to covers of existing songs", and yet this is clearly not a "song".

You specifically drew attention to something stupid that nobody cares about. We all know what a song is. (Except you. You're just being an asshole.)

THE WIKI THAT YOU LINKED TO wrote:A song is an artistic form of expression based on sound, generally considered a single (and often standalone) work of music with distinct and fixed pitches, pattern, and form.

Nothing about vocals. End of discussion about songs.

I wrote a rather angry reply to this entire thread but realised it was useless and scrapped it. Feel free to lock this stupid fucking thread.
