Csikós Post

Postby PinoBatch » Fri Nov 17, 2017 11:42 pm

"Csikós Post" by Hermann Necke is a short piece whose second half samples the second half of Franz Liszt's "Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2". It's appeared in lots of video games, such as Crash 'n the Boys, Sexy Parodius, Nintendogs + Cats, and Mario and Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games. It's one of the few songs that have appeared in both Konami's Dance Dance Revolution and its rival Andamiro's Pump It Up, another being the first movement of "Winter" by Vivaldi. This 2A03 cover is inspired by the version that appeared in the Super NES version of Yoshi's Cookie.

Search keywords because phpBB search is accent-sensitive: Csikos Post

I ported it to my best approximation of Game Boy limits within FamiTracker:
  • 2 Namco 163 channels, 1 used, wave length 32, volumes limited to 15, 7, and 3
  • No triangle
  • Pulse/noise envelopes are piecewise linear, slope no greater than 1 step per tick, and minimizing slope changes (because they reset period divider)
  • Noise duty cannot be switched without starting a new note (or at least another piecewise envelope segment) because an LFSR quirk occasionally silences the channel when switching duty (and BGB doesn't emulate this)
