[N163] Touhou 4: Lotus Land Story - Maiden's Capriccio ~ Capriccio

Postby Drillimation » Sun Jan 07, 2018 10:46 pm

First cover of 2018, decided to cover Maiden's Capriccio ~ Capriccio from Touhou 4: Lotus Land Story, using the Namco N163 chip.

I wanted to give this illusion if Touhou 4: Lotus Land Story came out in 1988. If the Touhou Project started in 1986, you would have to subtract ten years from each game's release date. If that happened, the first five would be NES exclusive. The first three would be on the FDS, while installments four and five would be made on a 128KB cartridge and use this chip for music. However, the American NES does not support this, and during localization, the N163 channels would've been removed. Consider the fictional excerpt below:

Code: Select all

In the fictional perspective, Amusement Software (a parody of Amusement Makers) made the first five for the NES and The Drillimation Company simply published them. Namco, Drillimation's parent company, decided not to publish HRtP in the US due to its Japanese theme, which weren't very popular in America yet. Nintendo won a jump ball with Drillimation to distribute the games internationally.

Making bullet hell games on NES would be a challenge. To get around this problem, the fictional Drillimation company would have made a chip that would double the RAM of the NES and allow 16 bullets on one line at a time to reduce flickering.
