So, I'm making this cover of the Pink Panther theme, and I need help.
What should I add to make it sound less bland?

the real question here is why did you use vrc7 if youre only going to use 2 channels and not use 2a03 pulses/tri at all.

Hi again! I think there's a couple of things that could help this WIP:

- Realize that the original song has a "swing/shufflebeat" rhythm to it, much like the songs in the Swing genre. Imagine that there are triplets playing throughout the entire song, and that should hopefully help you get the timing of the notes down better. In my demo, I exaggerated this in the first "intro" pattern using DPCM.

- For the longer notes, try using 4xy vibrato to make it sound more polished. Try to make them fade out too, with an A01 or something. (Don't forget to disable both with a 400/A00, or it'll keep doing it!)

- For extra flare, consider using Qxy/Rxy for some of your melody notes to bend them like the sax in the original does.

- Bass is very important! Make sure you're including that in the cover too, because it really brings out the melody/chords, despite how low of a pitch it is. I added it to the cover, on FM Channel 2.

Sorry if there are any inaccuracies in my edit, by the way: I actually don't know the song too well enough to arrange it accurately in a short time, so this was a bit rushed... Either way, I hope this helps you!
