Mega Man 5 But Better [MMC5+FDS, 0CC-FamiTracker]

Postby MiniMacro » Fri Jun 24, 2016 1:49 am

I made a neat VRC6 MMC5+FDS remix of Wave Man's theme from Mega Man 5.
Enjoy.

Definitely an interesting contrast to my cover. Where my cover was more about a relaxing trip, yours focuses on a wild tropical adventure feel. I can get down with that, actually. My mobile .nsf player is pretty bad, so I had to go back and use the NSFImport and listen to it. Too bad there was no .ftm, but I thankfully have backups. I'm fully convinced, though, that the sawtooth could've had a purpose in the song, which is a common argument I have against MMC5 to begin with; it's only adding two channels that are the exact same as the 2A03 Squares, rather than adding three more channels with their own unique quirks, like how the VRC6 had Square channels with even more and the sawtooth, an even better bass.

For what it's worth, the song plays extremely well, but my own bias against the chip sometimes acts as a block to listen to most covers using it. I'd like to see a few more of these covers, though.
Should I know what this "VRC7" is and why my friends want me to learn it?

I like the MMC5 and FDS combination because the FDS sawtooth sounds a bit heavier (in my opinion) and I find the volumes easier to balance.
That's good that you'd like to see more of these covers though. I'm doing the whole soundtrack.
